Can I smell my ear?
“Can I smell my ear?” is not something I thought I’d be wondering.
We were at a vet appointment and the Vet Tech took an ear swab and let Eddie smell it. Saying: “Do you want to smell your ears?” She then began to talk about how ears are one of the only places dogs can’t really smell, so it’s fun to let them smell their own ears.
We laughed, thinking “omg, that is so true.” The exam continued, we took a little walk after, and went home - all while still thinking about the little simple idea that dogs can’t really sniff their own ears.
And, now that Eddie knows there is a way to do it, will he want to smell his ears at every chance provided to him?
Now it makes me wonder what my ears smell like and if my doctor would indulge me if I ask: “Can I smell my ear?” Likely, my doctor would pretend to have never heard that really strange question. Either way, we’d both have a story to tell!
I’m so thankful for my dog and his silly little smells.
